GAME REPORT

Aalstar Downed By Paris Fightback

15. Jawad Williams (Paris Levallois)
Jawad Williams filled the boxscore with 25 points and 10 rebounds as Paris Levallois claimed a valuable road win

There was a first taste of defeat in EuroChallenge Group E for Okapi Aalstar after they were torched in the final quarter by Paris Levallois who claimed an excellent 86-76 win to move level with their opponent.

A blistering final quarter and stellar 25 points and 10 rebounds from Jawad Williams provided the foundation for the French team to make the relatively short trip home with the win in the bag.

The home team looked to be on course to protect their 100% record in the Group when they were leading 70-65 with just over four minutes remaining, but they imploded and with their defence inexplicably disappearing, the visitors gleefully capitalised.

Paris scored ten points without reply, a run finished with a triple by Antoine Diot as the visitors turned the game on its' head, with the same player finishing another downtown play in the last seconds to ensure a scorching 33 points for the visitors during the last ten minutes.

It was a particularly bitter pill for the home team to swallow since they led 45-29 at the break but came out sluggish during the second half and it proved costly.

Thomas Dreesen had 18 points for a disappointed home side and Diot finished with 21 points for the winning team.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes OKAPI AALSTAR vs. PARIS LEVALLOIS

Okapi Aalstar head coach Brad Dean
"I was satisfied with the performance of my team during the first half but Paris showed a lot of character in the second half. They put pressure on the ball and we couldn't handle it. We took also a lot of bad decisions and turned over the ball 23 times so you can never win a game."

Okapi Aalstar player Thomas Dreesen
"The pressure on our guards was so heavy during the second half that several times we just ran out of time to build up our plays. We were unable to find each other anymore so we tumbled into individual play. Paris had so many easy baskets and we had to fight for each score."

Paris Levallois player Louis Labeyrie
"The first half was very difficult despite our good defense. The second half we took control of the game and our defense was the key. Our shots fell on the right time and we could take the victory."

Paris Levallois coach Christophe Denis
"The first 20 minutes there was not enough energy on the floor. You need to put pressure on the opponent to be efficient. We had to play full court press to win the game by taking steals and find the right scorers. This was a game won on defense!"
