GAME REPORT

Italy Impress In Opening Win

13. Lorela Cubaj (Italy)
Lorela Cubaj and Italy won their opening match against Sweden

Italy led from start to finish in taking down Sweden 65-41 to get their U16 European Championship Women campaign off to a victorious start.

Turning Point: A 19-2 run in the first quarter put Italy well clear, and they never allowed Sweden to dream of a comeback as the lead swelled to 30 by the end of the third period.

Game Heroes: Lorela Cubaj imposed herself on the boards, picking up a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Elisa Pinzan was the chief defensive pest, ending with eight steals to complement her nine points.

Stats Don't Lie: Turnovers destroyed Sweden's attempts at gaining an offensive foothold, with Italy's strong defence forcing 35 in total.

The Bottom Line: Italy's next match will be against Denmark, while Sweden face a tough task to bounce back as they take on the Czech Republic next.
