GAME REPORT

Spain Ease Clear Of Croatia

Iris Junio (Spain)
Iris Junio impressed for Spain in the game against Croatia

Defending champions Spain got their U16 European Championship Women campaign off to the ideal start, pulling away for an 89-60 win over Croatia in Debrecen.

Turning Point: After a competitive opening quarter, Spain went on a 14-2 run in the second period, and any Croatian hopes of a second-half comeback were extinguised as they were held to just one point in the opening six minutes of the third period.

Game Hero: Iris Junio delivered 19 points in her team's first game, hitting eight of 12 shots and leading a balanced offence in which four players recorded double-figures.

Stats Don't Lie: Croatia couldn't stop Spain getting to the basket, as the Spanish team registered 52 points in the paint.

The Bottom Line: With matches against the defending champions and then the hosts in their first two games, Croatia know that the match against Serbia on Saturday will be the crucial game for them. Spain take on Hungary in front of the raucous home crowd in their next match.
