|Julijana Vojinovic steadied the Serbian offence|
Serbia tipped-off their challenge for a third consecutive podium finish at the U18 European Championship Women with an 80-68 opening day Group B win against Lithuania in Matosinhos.
Turning Point: Having watched their early 15-point eventually trimmed to 44-43, Serbia kept their noses in front - if only just. Additionally, a powerful 12-2 run during the final quarter was pivotal in getting off the mark with a victory.
Game Heroes: Kristina Arsenic and Julijana Vojinovic combined for an efficient 41 points for the winning side while credit was also due to Daugile Sarauskaite who registered a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds in defeat.
Stats Don't Lie: Lithuania found it a struggle from behind the three-point line and were always lacking the firepower to win the game by shooting 1-of-15. However, it was 27 turnovers which proved most costly.
The Bottom Line: Not only a win for Serbia, but achieved with a good spread of minutes and importantly limited court-time for Aleksandra Crvendakic who will be eased into this tournament after appearing at U20 level in Udine. Lithuania were perhaps always destined to struggle without the services of kingpin Dalia Belickaite.
