There was an eye-catching start for Slovenia at the U18 European Championship Women in Matosinhos after they sunk Turkey on opening day with an impressive and perhaps surprising 73-54 triumph in Group A.
Turning Point: Slovenia really pushed down hard on their opponents in a powerful 26-11 run either side of the interval and it left Turkey reeling and unable to recover.
Game Heroes: Maja Jakobcic had a day to remember with a scintillating 19 points and eight rebounds, while Alma Potocnik also shot over 60% from the floor en-route to 15 points.
Stats Don't Lie: Slovenia enjoyed the upper hand in the paint and that was evidenced by a healthy 41-27 count on the glass in their favour, along with 42 points under the basket compared to 26 from Turkey.
The Bottom Line: This could have been the arrival of a dark horse in Slovenia after such a red-hot display and their control of the game will give them huge heart for the next two group games. Turkey will have to step up their interior game and noticeably also missed eight of their 17 free-throws and must now re-focus
