GAME REPORT

Minsk Rout Kotka On The Road

34. Keith Benson Jr (Tsmoki Minsk)
Keith Benson stood out for Tsmoki Minsk, scoring 24 points

Tsmoki Minsk produced a huge third quarter to power them to a dominant 100-64 win at Team TEHO Sport Kotka to start their EuroChallenge Last 16 campaign on Wednesday evening.

The hosts had the better start, five Chris Owens points making it 7-2 after only two minutes and they held on to the lead until the end of the frame, 23-17.

Minsk started finding their rhythm though, scoring the first four points of the second quarter, making it a tight affair from then on.

Keith Benson with two free-throws, made his 12th and 13th points of the night, putting the visitors back in front for the first time since the opening minute and the teams kept trading points until the end of the half, Tsmoki taking a 41-38 lead into the break.

Minsk looked like they found another gear in the third frame, putting the shackles on Kotka, going on a 19-5 scoring run between the 30th and 35th minute that all but decided the game.

After 30 minutes, TEHO Sport were on the wrong end of a 76-48 lead and Tsmoki kept piling the misery on their hosts in the last quarter, breaking into triple figures on the last play of the game.

Benson was not as dominant as usual on the glass, but carried the weight on offence, pouring in 24 points, while Vitali Liutych added 12 and Demonte Harper 10 points.

Kotka had four players in double figures but will look more at their defence when trying to explain the defeat.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Team TEHO Sport Kotka vs. Tsmoki Minsk

Tsmoki Minsk player Parrish Petty
"It's never easy to win a basketball game. We were the bigger team in the post. We got some easy points from the post."

Team Teho Sport Kotka playe Michael Pounds
"Our game was embarrassing. We didn't have any energy. Hope we learned a lesson."

Tsmoki Minsk head coach Donaldas Kairys
"We played against a good shooting team. We didn't let them shoot open shots. The whole game our team was solid and we played as planned."

Team Teho Sport Kotka head coach Sami Toiviainen
"We were too kind in rebounds. They started to run in the second half and we didn't get any stops and couldn't score. If you let a good team play like they want, this is what happens. This was a good lesson for the team and for me also."
