|Ernest Bremer led a balanced Gaziantep offence with 14 points|
Royal Hali Gaziantep played some stifling defence as they clinched their place in the quarter-final play-offs of the EuroChallenge with a 71-46 victory over BK Ventspils in Group K.
The win saw Gaziantep improve to 4-0 in the group as they secure progression with two game days to spare.
A huge second quarter was the key to their win as they outscored their hosts 24-10 to take control, with Ernest Bremer scoring all 14 of his team-high tally in the period.
Bremer scored two three-pointers in a 14-0 run early in that second period as Gaziantep went 31-15 up and added another before the break as they went into the locker rooms 41-21 up.
They continued to pull away throughout the second half as Ventspils struggled to find any rhythm, and the lead hit 30 when Terrico White's three-pointer made it 69-39 with five minutes to go.
Gaziantep held Ventspils to 18-of-49 (36.7%) shooting from the field, while they hit only 8-of-14 (57.1%) from the free throw line.
Sertac Sanli had 12 points for Gaziantep while Oliver Stevic had nine and nine rebounds.
Lorenzo Williams had 12 points for Ventspils, with Martins Laksa adding 11.
Gaziantep Head Coach Jurij Zdovc
"I respect Ventspils and their coach and we know that they can be very strong opponents, but I expected the game to be tougher. Before this game we concentrated on neutralising [Sandis] Valters, [Maris] Gulbis and [Akseliks] Vairogs, because they are the main three-point scorers. My players also surprised me - positively, because they were very focused and this helped to control most of the game. I am happy about the result. I wish good luck to Ventspils in their further games."
Gaziantep Player Oliver Stevic
"This was a successful game for us and getting so far is a big thing for our team. We controled most parts of the game; we had some minor problems, but we overcame them. With each game we are progressing as a team, I hope we are going to continue like this."
Ventspils Head Coach Roberts Stelmahers
"I want to apologise to all basketball fans for today‘s game. There were two teams of different level on the court tonight - one was playing and the other was not. One team had success and the other did not. We are going to analyse today‘s game and see what we can do about our further games."
Ventspils Player Akselis Vairogs
"We knew that this is an important game, but somehow we did not manage to succeed. This Turkish club is a very strong opponent - every mistake counts. I felt like the team did not put out their energy to the fullest. Gaziantep proved that they can be the leaders of the group: they had a better rotation; they helped each other on the court... This is not the last game for us in this season and I hope the luck will still be on our side."
