|Terrell Stoglin chipped in with 13 points for Cholet Basket|
Cholet Basket's 75-67 victory over ZZ Leiden in their EuroChallenge Group G clash on Tuesday night was cause for celebration in Cholet, as well as in Aarhus, Denmark.
The victory puts Cholet in the Last 16 whilst additionally, on account of their 68-66 win over 2013 quarter-finalists Kataja Basket earlier in the evening, coupled with Cholet's win, Bakken Bears Aarhus also advance at the expense of ZZ Leiden and Kataja Basket.
As they have in the previous two weeks, ZZ Leiden responded defiantly to having their backs pressed against the wall, keeping in the game up until the last 50 seconds.
Despite having trailed by 11 with under seven to play, Sean Cunningham responded by striking down the next four points to set off a late revival which ended with a Worthy De Jong two-pointer and Leiden only trailing by three.
But the calm-as-they-come Terrel Stoglin steadied the visitor's ship, following up a pair from the charity stripe from Lamayn Wilson by making three-from-four of his own from the same spot to put the lead back out to a more comfortable eight points.
Rudy Jomby once more shone for Cholet with 18 points and 8 boards. Wilson delivered with 16 points, John Cox filled out his stat line nicely with 11 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds, whilst Stoglin had 13 points.
Joshua Duinker had 8 rebounds and 19 points for the home team.
ZZ Leiden Player Mike Schachtner
"Just a couple of possessions and we were right there. Sometimes the ball just doesn't bounce our way. We have to realise that we have to play for 40 minutes."
ZZ Leiden Head Coach Toon van Helfteren
"After last Sunday's poor performance I was surprised that we stayed in this game till the last seconds. In the EuroChallenge we play with motivation and heart, why can't we play this way in our league? We could have won this game. But we're getting there."
Cholet Basket Player John Cox
"Our gameplan was to focus on defence and that was what we did. It was not easy. A game on the road never is. The Leiden team had a lot of energy and the crown gave them even more. I'm glad we won and qualified for the next round."
Assistant Coach Jim Bilba
"Leiden played a very good game. They gave 120% and the crowd was great. Home or away is always a big difference. We told the players that it would not be the same game as in Cholet. The defence did it for us."
