|Aaron Mc Ghee came up big for the winning side with a 23-point, 10-rebound double-double|
Aaron McGhee led the way as Ural Ekaterinburg ensured Fortress Jaszberenyi finished Group F play winless in the EuroChallenge.
McGhee had 23 points and 10 rebounds as Ural Ekaterinburg ran out 84-68 winners to improve their own record to 5-1 at the top of the group.
They broke the game open in the second quarter, with a 7-0 run making it 41-28 just before the interval.
Before and after, it was actually a fairly even game, with Fortress Jaszberenyi having the better of the third quarter and then held Ekaterinburg to just five points in the opening six minutes of a tight fourth quarter.
No matter as Ekaterinburg did all they needed and more in that second quarter.
McGhee started and finished an 8-2 run that broke open the game and gave them a 30-23 lead.
Fedor Kliuchnikov's lay-up made it 34-25 and although Nebojsa Dukity replied with a three-pointer for Fortress, Lance Harris had one of his own for the visitors to spark that decisive 7-0 run.
And although the hosts had put up such a tough defensive front for most of the fourth quarter, once Ekaterinburg had broken through they piled on the points late on, scoring 16 in the final 4:06 of the game as their lead exploded.
Kliuchnikov had seven points in that late burst to bring his own tally to 21 for the night, while Dmitrii Nikolaev scored 13.
Dukity led Fortress with 18 points while Laszlo Lazar added 14.
Ekaterinburg head coach Oleg Okulov
"First of all, thank you to my team. We have some problems we can't play this game with twelve players unfortunatelly. Thanks for the good game. Jaszberenyi got a good team and I wish for them a successful season.
Ekaterinburg player Aaron McGhee
"It was a good team victory and finished the year good and I'm happy about the fans in Ekaterinburg and my team, my coaches. We finished the group with 5 wins so it is very good and it is very positive going into the new year."
Jaszberenyi head coach Sandor Foldi
"I congratulate the visiting team. Unfortunatelly we had to keep our head down. I thank the fans for their encouragement and thanks to Salgotarjan for visiting our team. We would have liked to finish better than this and we had good moments but we had a lot of problems. We have to learn from our mistakes and the other team's play."
Jaszberenyi player Nikolas Raivio
"Unfortunately we weren't able to make the game as close as it was in Russia. Their key players made plays and they started to pull away from us in the second quarter. It was difficult to catch up after we dug ourselves a hole. Best of luck to Ural in the next round."
