|Courdon Higgins came to rescue for Triumph Lyubertsy, pouring in six of his 35 points in overtime|
Triumph Lyubertsy blew a double-digit second-half lead but managed to edge out Gaz Metan Medias 84-81 in overtime for a road win that keeps them unbeaten in Group D of the EuroChallenge.
In a battle of 2-0 teams, Triumph were up by 11 late in the third quarter only for Kyle Shiloh to inspire a late comeback from Medias that sent the game into an extra five minutes.
But with Courdon Higgins in blistering form on his way to 35 points, Triumph held another narrow lead as the clock ticked down and when Shiloh's three-point attempt bounced clear in the final second, their win was secure.
Triumph led 61-50 when Higgins sank a jump shot with 2:17 to go in the third quarter, but Shiloh followed a pair of free throws with a three-pointer as Medias set about closing the gap.
Back-to-back baskets from Shiloh late in the fourth quarter then made it a one-point game, 70-69, with 64 seconds left.
Higgins padded the lead only for Rares Mandache's three to tie it 29 ticks from time.
Higgins went to the line to add two more but Shiloh's lay-up with a single second left forced overtime.
Triumph struck first and led 82-79 with 64 seconds left after a pair of Higgins free throws.
Kyle Landry missed a three that might have sealed it to allow Shiloh to once more make it a one-point game with 13 seconds left.
But Higgins held his nerve with two more free throws - making him a perfect eight of eight from the line on the night - and Shiloh's late heave was off-target.
Shiloh collected 22 points with 11 rebounds for Medias.
Triumph Lyubertsy player Courdon Higgins
"Tough game, they shot the ball very well and played very well as a team. We had some problems in the fourth quarter, but we played aggressive and I had freedoom on the court, so I played my game."
Triumph Lyubertsy head coach Vasily Karasev
"It was a very important game for us, we wanted to win because I think this game was for the first place in the group. We started bad on defence, Gaz Metan scored 26 points in the first quarter and that is not what I expect from my team. Aggresivity and a little more luck made the difference at the end."
Gaz Metan Mediaş head coach Marcel Ţenter
"We lost some important free throws in overtime and in the fourt quarter. Such mistakes cost a team in an important game. I think that was the difference between us and very important was the spectacular play of Higgins who made us change all the strategy we prepared."
Gaz Metan Mediaş player Andrei Mandache
"We had bad luck like in most of the games this season. Triumph is a very good team who play in a strong championship. Like usually, we had problems with concentration at the end of the game and we lost. Our chances remain the same in this group."
