|Kyle Landry scored a joint game-high 20 points for Triumph|
Triumph Lyubertsy breezed to top spot in Group D of the EuroChallenge as they comfortably beat Gaz Metan Medias 94-72.
The game between the top two in the group was a straight fight for top spot and an even battle was expected between two teams with 4-1 records.
But Triumph had other ideas and an 8-0 run early in the second quarter helped them seize control of the contest as they took a 47-30 lead into the locker rooms at half-time.
They had started the game on an 11-2 tear but Medias battled back to 21-18 when Kyle Shiloh's lay-up ended a 6-0 spurt.
But Courdon Higgins started the decisive run with a jump shot and it was 33-20 when Kyle Landry made a lay-up to move to 13 points with 5:46 of the second quarter still to play.
The hosts continued to ease clear, and led 77-52 on a Higgins jump shot early in the fourth quarter.
There was no way back from there for Medias.
Higgins, who had 35 points in Triumph's 84-81 win last time these teams met and started game second in points in the competition, had 20 points for Triumph, a tally matched by Landry.
Jeremy Chappell added 15.
Shiloh had 19 points for Medias, while Radomir Marojevic collected 13 points with 10 boards.
Triumph Head Coach Vasiliy Karasev
"We were motivated for the victory and it was our last home game in December, so we wanted to finish the year 2013 with a good result in the EuroChallenge, with a good game. We wanted to make it a X-mas present for the team and the fans."
Triumph Player Evgeny Valiev
"We played a good game today, tried to execute on the court what the coach had told us, and first of all we played great defence. We were well motivated; we've got a good lesson from the road game in Romania and today we tried to play aggressively and variable in defence."
Gaz Metan Head Coach Marcel Tenter
"Congratulations to Triumph, they played very hard defence all game, we had big problems to organise our normal game. We expected that Triumph would play good defence, but we did not even have a chance to shoot! We came back in the second half, but it wasn't enough for the victory."
Gaz Metan Player Willie Kemp
"We came here well prepared, but when we came in we couldn't overcome their defence as we were supposed to. They played great team defence and they won."
