|Danielle Page had a joint game-high 14 points for Landes|
Basket Landes grabbed a valuable first-leg lead in the EuroCup Women quarter-finals after a superb final 15 minutes helped them record a 72-64 success at domestic rivals Villeneuve d'Ascq.
For much of the contest neither team had been able to make a decisive break in an intense struggle, with the home side managing to move 23-17 ahead from a jump-shot by Johanne Gomis.
But, this was quickly swallowed up by Basket Landes and both clubs proceeded to share the lead at regular intervals until the third quarter, when Villeneuve looked to have established some daylight again at 52-46.
However, the wheels came crashing off in spectacular fashion as the Villeneuve offence went AWOL and Basket Landes took full advantage.
Using their superior strength on the glass and some fine defence, the visitors restricted Villeneuve to just six points in over ten minutes.
Landes outscored their opponents 22-6 to soar into the ascendancy, as point guard Olivia Epoupa put them 68-58 ahead.
Villeneuve managed to stem the bleeding during the last couple of minutes, with an Elin Eldebrink score reducing the margin to single digits.
Although they may yet regret their potentially disastrous drought either side of the third and fourth quarter break.
Anais Le Gluher-Cano and Danielle Page both excelled for Landes with 14 points each and Elderbink returned the same tally in defeat.
