|Eshaya Murphy led the charge for Salamanca as the Spanish champs got back to winning ways|
Perfumerias Avenida bounced back from their opening day mauling in Istanbul to lock down CCC Polkowice and open up their account in Group C with a 59-44 victory.
Rolled over by Galatasaray in their first outing, the Spanish club had their sights set on victory against a fragile CCC Polkowice team still reeling from a shock defeat to Kirbisktis-Vici Vilnius and a thumping in the Polish league by arch rivals Wisla Can-Pack.
In a game which had defences on top, the lack of offensive punch from the visitors ultimately proved to be the main issue as they dried up in crunch time.
The first half had seen Avenida move in front at 28-25 heading to the locker rooms and they were able to solidify and extend their stranglehold when they returned.
CCC Polkowice couldn't find their range from outside and were a pretty blunt instrument from downtown, shooting 2 of 19 which made life extremely difficult and especially with the hosts having the edge in the paint too.
A 10-3 run midway the last quarter won the game for Avenida, with 17 points from Eshaya Murphy and 14 rebounds from Angelica Robinson also playing a major part.
Janel McCarville had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Poles.
CCC Polkowice head coach Jacek Winnici
"Congraulations to Salamanca, they did a great game on defence, we could only score 44 points. We had our chances in the second half but we missed two quick shots and then it was impossible."
CCC Polkowice player Belinda Snell
"As our coach said, it was a tough game, they defended really well and we could not execute what we planned. Congratulations to Salamaca."
Perfumerías Avenida head coach Víctor Lapeña
"I saw an incredible attitude of my players tonight, even unexpected for me. This is the way we have to continue because I think that tonight we have grown as a team."
Perfumerías Avenida player Shay Murphy
"It was a great game on defence, I am so proud of all my teammates because all of us played together, as a real team."
