CCC Polkowice's offensive struggles continued as Galatasaray odeabank took a 70-45 road victory, leaving Polkowice's EuroLeague Women qualification hopes in the balance.
Spanish international Sancho Lyttle, named two weeks ago as the 2013 FIBA Europe Women's Player of the Year, displayed her full repertoire as the current TKBL table-toppers led from start to finish.
Polkowice came back from a six-point deficit in the first period to pull only two behind in the second quarter of Teja Oblak's lay-up, but they couldn't contain the visitors inside as the lead swelled to 13 by half-time, Lyttle following up her own put-back miss to beat the buzzer.
Lyttle finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, profiting in the third quarter as head coach Ekrem Memnun ran the offence through the Spanish international.
Lyttle provided five dishes during the period, the last of which Alba Torrens converted for a 22-point lead for the Turkish team, with 11 minutes remaining.
The hosts will now hope for a favour from their conquerors as they cast a nervous eye on the final two games of Lithuanian team Kibirkstis VICI-Vilnius, who can still beat out Polkowice for fifth spot in the group, although they have difficult games against Group C table-toppers ZVVZ USK Prague and then a trip to Turkey to face Galatasaray on 26 February.
Valeriya Musina was the only home player to tally double-figures, taking 17 shots to score 16 points. Kelsey Bone led the visitors with 15, and Shavonte Zellous added 14.
CCC Polkowice Head Coach Jacek Winnicki
"I congratulate Galatasaray. There is nothing to discuss, because we lost this game very strongly. We tried to fight, but with the exception of the first 15 minutes, we did little. Unfortunately, due to health, Belinda Snell was not able to play, and later the injury suffered by Janel McCarville meant she could not continue the game. We fought, and it was a good chance for other players, but in this match in every element of the game the team from Istanbul was better."
CCC Polkowice Player Valeriya Musina
"I congratulate the team of Galatasaray. I hope the next game will be better. Today our defeat was decided by absenteeism of our leading competitors, which contributed to the weakening of our offensive play. I wish good luck to Galatasaray for their subsequent meetings."
Galatasaray odeabank Head Coach Ekrem Memnun
"I am very happy that we won, but we did not play the best basketball. This was for us a very important game, because in the second part of the group stage we lost three games and still we have been fighting for the best possible position before the play-off stage. It was a very important victory for us."
Galatasaray odeabank Player Sancho Lyttle
"Every game is important, but that one was particularly important for us, after we had lost three games this year. We needed this victory to remain among the teams that will play in the next round of EuroLeague Women.
