GAME REPORT

Prague Edge Galatasaray In Nail-Biter

7. Jelena Dubljevic (ZVVZ USK Prague)
Jelena Dubljevic starred for ZVVZ USK Prague with 22 points

ZVVZ USK Prague claimed a precious 63-58 win in Istanbul to complete a double over Galatasaray odeabank and regain top spot in EuroLeague Women Group C.

Leading scorer Jelena Dubljevic plundered another 22 points for Prague and scored the basket which made the game safe during the dying seconds as the visitors inflicted more woe on their hosts.

The wheels are suddenly threatening to come off for Galatasaray head-coach Ekrem Memnun, who presided over a third defeat in four games.

It looked like the Turkish giants would have a good chance of getting back on track during the opening exchanges after they produced a smooth 20-16 opening.

Even when Prague fought back to take the lead, Galatasaray still found themselves with a 40-39 advantage in the third quarter of a tense but intriguing match-up.

However, they lost their foothold in the game as Prague posted a 13-4 run either side of the third and fourth quarter break to jump out in front, a place they managed to stay until the final buzzer.

Both teams missed too many triple attempts and free-throws, but with Prague able to utilise the 18-point Kia Vaughn haul alongside Dubljevic, the Czechs had the two difference-makers.

Shavonte Zellous set up a nail-biting conclusion when she scored to cut the gap to 60-58 with 13 seconds left, but a free-throw by Danielle Robinson and a critical steal by Laia Palau to set up the decisive score for Dubljevic won the contest.

Sancho Lyttle registered 16 points and eight rebounds for Galatasaray.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: Galatasaray vs. USK Prague

Galatasaray Head Coach Ekrem Memnun
"This was a must win game for us. So we are sad that we lost. It will make our standing in the group harder. We want to have the home advantage in the play-offs. We were after a good season start but we lost our concentretion along the way and it cost us tough loses. We had some injured and sickness affected our game plan. Our offence percentage was low today. We had 15 turnovers. It made us lose the control of the game. We will work harder to win the next two games."

Galatasaray Player Shavonte Zellous
"This is a bad loss for us. Both teams had to win tonight. We made some crucial turnovers at important times. It cost us the game."

USK Prague Head Coach Natalia Hejkova
"We are happy that we won today. Galatasaray is one of the best teams in EuroLeague Women. Last week we lost at home by one point. So, this is a very valuable win for us. Robinson was very good for our rotation today. Even though Palau is injured we managed to cover her absence. We defended well tonight. It’s not easy to keep Galatasaray to 58 points on their home court."

USK Prague Player Kia Vaughn
"This was a good win for us. You can’t take anything away from Galatasaray easily. It was a tough atmosphere but we fought hard and managed to win."
