Galatasaray odeabank bounced back to winning ways in EuroLeague Women after completing a final quarter defensive lockdown of CCC Polkowice to take a 62-49 success in Group C.
Having lost against group leaders ZVVZ USK Prague, the Istanbul heavyweights showed it was more of a blip, after throwing a defensive blanket over their Polish visitors to get back on track.
However, the home side didn't have things all their own way as Polkowice tried in vain to avoid a fifth loss in their first six games.
When Valeriya Musina put her team 15-13 in front, it appeared that the offensive frailties of Jacek Winnicki and his struggling team might be a thing of the past.
But, it was to prove a false dawn as Galatasaray slowly but surely gained the upper hand.
Yet when Teja Oblak scored for Polkowice at the end of the third quarter to cut the gap to just four points at 50-46, the chance of an upset was still imaginable.
However, hope of a shock evaporated as CCC Polkowice managed a meagre three points during the last ten minutes as their offensive woes haunted them yet again.
Galatasaray consequently eased to victory - even if they didn't find any real rhythm themselves - aside from Shavonte Zellous who had 22 points, four assists and three steals, and also Nevriye Yilmaz who had an efficient 10 points and seven rebounds.
Belinda Snell continues as the one Polkowice player in some kind of form by scoring 19 points.
Galatasaray head coach Ekrem Memnun
"This was a game we had to win. From time to time we played well and there were times we couldn't manage what we planned to do. We made some simple errors which we can see from our shooting percentage. We had 14 turnovers on our own court while there was no pressure. However in the last period they only scored three points. We played some good defence but we couldn't play offence as we want to. We have some important players. We need to use them more effectively. I'm glad that we won. Now we will analyze the game and work hard to cover for our weaknesses."
Galatasaray center Nevriye Yılmaz
"It was a diffucult game for us. We played against a very experience team. They have very good players but we managed to win. We had our ups and downs in the game. We only lost once in our group. We will go to Vilnius next week. It's going to be an important match. We will work on our game this week."
Polkowice head coach Jacek Winnicki
"I congratulate Galatasaray. Even though we fought hard we couldn't finish off the game. We were especially low on the rebounds and we made some simple errors. At the end the fight we put wasn't enough."
Polkowice forward Belinda Snell
"I congratulate Galatasaray. Unfortunately we couldn't win the game. We started well which is a positive thing for us but we couldn't manage to end the game like we started. Galatasaray played good. Our travel might have effected us. We will work hard for the next game."
