|Sonja Petrovic underlined her status as Sparta&K MR Vidnoje's leader with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists against Vilnius|
A spectacular start by Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje paved the way for a 68-55 success at Kibirkstis-Vici Vilnius and consecutive victories in EuroLeague Women Group C.
The result also condemned the hosts to back-to-back defeats, but Kibirkstis could not have expected anything else after they were caught sleeping at both ends of the court during the first quarter.
Vidnoje exploded early with a 29-8 opening period and as hard as the home side tried, there was to be no way back and especially with their outside shooting game below the usual high standard.
Once Sparta&K went 60-38 ahead early in the fourth quarter, it was effectively game over.
A late scoring splurge by Vilnius and holding their guests to just eight points in the last eight minutes of the contest did little more than paper over some major cracks.
Evgenia Belyakova and Sonja Petrovic both harvested 19 points and seven rebounds for the winning team with Petrovic also dishing out fivee assists.
Former EuroLeague Women Final Eight MVP Asjha Jones added a noteworthy 14 points and eight rebounds.
Vita Kuktiene and Sofija Aleksandravicius combined for 27 points in defeat, but lacked any support in the scoring stakes.
Kibirkstis-VICI forward Mante Kvederaviciute
"Sparta&K got the lead early in the game and we didn't manage to fight back. We lacked aggression in the beginning. We had an opportunity in the end, but we couldn't turn the game our way. All teams in our group are strong and we have very tough games ahead."
Kibirkstis-VICI head coach Jurgita Streimikyte-Virbickiene
"Sparta&K won the game in the first half. They hit their shots very well and had too many rebounds. Wrong decisions in the fourth quarter withdrew our chances."
Sparta&K head coach Alexander Vasin
"We started the game really good and made our shots. In the end we were tired and Kibirkstis-VICI got closer. We dedicate this win to Shabtai Kalmanovich."
Sparta&K forward Sonja Petrovic
"We expected a tough game. Vilnius has a young team which started the season great. We have problems with injuries. Today we had a very good start and managed to keep the advantage. It is special to be in Lithuania and dedicate this win to Shabtai Kalmanovich."
