|Anastasiya Verameyenka put Fenerbahce on her back, coming up with a fine double-double and four blocks|
A classy display from Anastasiya Veremayenka helped Fenerbahce ease their way to a 68-60 win at BK Imos Brno and remain unbeaten in EuroLeague Women Group B.
The Belarusian centre claimed a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds from a five of six floor-shooting performance as the Turkish giants moved to within touching distance of an early play-off spot.
But, their sixth consecutive victory wasn't plain sailing, with Brno gaining the upper hand during some impressive play during the second quarter.
Fenerbahce had moved 29-24 ahead, but the hosts put together eight points without reply as Swedish forward Danielle Hamilton briefly gave Brno a three-point lead.
The visitors then found a greater defensive focus and regained the initiative by holding the home team to a paltry eight points during the third quarter.
They also outscored Brno 17-4 in a devastating spell across the third and fourth quarter break, which gave them the platform they needed for victory.
Barbora Kasparkova produced arguably her best display in a Brno shirt, with the 21-year-old claiming an efficient 11 points and dishing up four assists.
Meanwhile Verameyenka also swatted four shots and moved to within four of becoming only the third player in EuroLeague Women history to reach the landmark of 150 blocked shots in the competition.
Brno head coach Milan Veverka
"Our opponent was tactically better, because they are more experienced. When we had no turnovers and could make good positions under the basket, the game was equal. I'd like to thank my team for fighting."
Brno center Anna Jurčenková
"We were trying to fight all the time. But it was a really tough game. On home court, we play better, which you could see in defence. I'm glad, that even though the third period was not good for us, we came back in the fourth. Also, I'd like to thank our fans."
Fenerbahce head coach Roberto Iniguez
"First of all I want to congratulate Brno. We knew they are going to fight, they play very good in this gym, they lost here only one game against Rivas and the others were very close in the score. So we knew before the game that it is difficult here. And I want to congratulate them because they fought and played with pride. About us - we started well maybe with little defensive problems and in the second quarter we were absolutely wrong, early shooting, no balance and were more worried about offence not defence. After the time-out I think the players understood they have to play without turnovers with more passion in offense and when we tried this, I think we break the game and even if they tried to come back to the game, we won."
Fenerbahce center Isabelle Yacoubou
"It was a tough game for both of us. No surprise from Brno because we knew they can fight here, playing with more heart, more passion at home. Of course we were waiting for this kind of game. They have very good fans pushing them but even if it was not easy for us to play, we played our best. Sometimes we rush things and did not respect what coach said but during time-out he remembered us how to get back to he game and I think we got focused back and finished the game."
