|Queralt Casas came up big for Rivas Ecopolis, dropping 21 points on Brno|
Queralt Casas recorded the highest tally of her EuroLeague Women career to help Rivas Ecopolis return to winning ways with a 78-60 victory against BK Imos Brno in Group B.
The guard, who celebrated her 21st birthday a couple of weeks ago, racked up the same number of points as Rivas got back on track with a third win in their first four games.
The hosts could barely have wished for a more positive opening after scoring the first eleven points of the contest and it allowed them to lead from tip to buzzer.
After finally coming alive and working hard to establish a decent foothold, Brno were still very much in the game in the second half, albeit trailing 46-41.
But, they imploded and Rivas took full advantage with a 10-0 run and it put them firmly into the ascendency.
With the prolific Alena Hanusova well contained by the Rivas defence, the visitors couldn't recover and the home side had little trouble in finishing the job.
Gaby Ocete caught the eye behind the headline contribution of Casas with six assists and three steals.
There was additional reason for Rivas to be satisfied, since Frida Eldebrink returned to the floor against her former club having missed the last couple of games with injury.
Swedish national team star Ashley Key replied with 12 points for Brno.
Rivas Ecópolis head coach José Ignacio Hernández
"It was hard to react after the two recent losses both in EuroLeaue and our domestic competition, as our team is starting to feel tired. But I think we played a good overall game, sometimes better that others on the offence, but always hard on defence. We had a plan to stop the production from Hanusova and Peckova, and we executed well. In the end, I think that being close to 80 points and allowing only 60 is something to be happy about, especially against a team that was capable of winning against Nadezhda and BLMA."
Rivas Ecópolis point guard Gaby Ocete
"It was a hard game, just like all of them in this competition, and it was an important day for us, we knew how crucial it was to get this win. We're happy with the score and with the way we played, looking like ourselves on the court."
BK IMOS Brno Coach Jan Bobrovsky
"We didn't start the game well, we allowed Rivas to get a nine-point advantage early on. We lacked some self-confidence, but then we were able to come back, we were many times trailing by just five points. But Rivas did important breaks and they were up again by ten. Then our point guard had an injury and we had to try different things. I want to congratulate Rivas to this win."
BK IMOS Brno power forward Alena Hanusova
"They were the better team on the offensive end, they played a lot of fastbreaks and hit the shots in important moments. We had small scoring figures, it's hard to win an European game when your production is around the sixties. Also, they had a good night hitting free throws."
