|Tereza Peckova came up big for Brno in crunch time|
Tereza Peckova inspired BK IMOS Brno to a come-from-behind 67-64 home win over Lattes Montpellier in EuroLeague Women Group B on Wednesday.
The Czech Republic international scored seven of her 15 points in the final period, including the go-ahead three-pointer inside the last two minutes, as the hosts outscored previously unbeaten Montpellier 17-7 in the fourth.
Trailing 57-50 going into the quarter Brno went on an 8-0 run to tie at 58 before Peckova's long shot gave them a 65-64 edge late on.
Brno were led by Ivana Jalcova's 17 points and move to 2-2 while Montpellier slip to 2-1.
After some even opening exchanges the hosts surged into a 22-13 first-quarter lead behind fast-break baskets from Peckova and Jalcova in a 6-0 run.
The second period belonged to Montpellier however as Helena Ciak's jump shot started an 11-0 sequence, which would end with her team holding a 34-30 lead.
An 8-0 run to start the second half, thanks to more sharp shooting from Ciak, set Montpellier on the way to their biggest lead, 54-40, before Brno bit back in the final stanza.
BLMA's Geraldine Robert led all scorers with 19, one more than team-mate Ciak, but it wasn't enough.
Brno Head Coach Jan Bobrovsky
"There were some ups and downs in the game - fantastic start but it was clear that we couldn't play this good during the whole game. The third quarter was a catastrophe for us - I think that for more than four minutes, we didn't score. Then, players from the bench could eliminate the 12-point deficit with their courage and the experienced players could win the game in crunch time. There, we were lucky and with our courage we got three important rebounds. The thing we couldn't make against Sopron and Krakow, we made today and we are really happy because of that."
Brno Player Ivana Jalcova
"I am very happy that we won. Montpellier are a very good team but we were luckier in the end. We started well, after that Montpellier came back into the match and were winning by 10 points. I am really glad that we did not give up and came back. At the very end we had good shooting positions, but did not score. On the other hand our offensive rebounds helped us a lot."
BLMA Head Coach Valery Demory
"I am really disappointed because we should have won the last quarter and we played very bad at that quarter, especially at rebounding."
BLMA Player Geraldine Robert
"We started bad and after we came back, we could read their game, we were tougher in defence and in the fourth quarter we just gave up. I don't know what happened. I'd like to congratulate Brno, they did a great job in the fourth quarter."
