|Lara Sanders recorded her second double-double of the season|
Kayseri Kaski Spor shone late on to pull away from Tango Bourges for a 61-56 success at home on Wednesday, their first victory in EuroLeague Women.
The hosts trailed 54-52 heading into the final five minutes after Diandra Tchatchouang hit a big three on the fast-break for the visitors.
But back-to-back baskets from Tanisha Wright, a lay-up, and Nuria Martinez, a three-pointer, turned this Group A tie and Kayseri closed on a 9-2 tear to take their first EuroLeague Women win.
The Turkish side had led by a many as nine points midway through the third quarter, paced by Wright's 15 points.
But when a Johannah Leedham-led resurgence had Bourges back in front early in the final qaurter the home fans feared the worst.
They needn't have worried however as it was Kayseri who possessed the necessary poise down the stretch, Mirna Mazic and Aysegül Günay getting in on the act to help make sure of an historic win.
Forward Lara Sanders was also central to the success, scoring 13 points and collecting 14 rebounds while Leedham had 15 for Bourges in a third losing effort of the season.
Kayseri Head Coach Ayhan Avci
"Our first EuroLeague Women win is very special; every game we learn something and play better. We gained experience in the last two defeats and we played better in the last part of the game with this experience. We would like to get more wins and go to the Final Eight."
Kayseri Player Nuria Martinez
"This is our first win and we are so happy. This is the beginning for us in EuroLeague Women. In this kind of game we need to play tough defence and today we worked hard on defence."
Bourges Head Coach Valerie Garnier
"First of all congratulations to Kayseri. This kind of games is about defence. Kayseri played good defence; we lost the ball too many times on offence."
Bourges Player Celine Dumerc
"We had to play as a team to win the game, but we could not play like this and we couldn't execute this on defence."
