Italy used a huge second half to put away Montenegro after finding themselves trailing at half-time in their final Group F game at the U16 European Championship Men.
With Montenegro winless in the second round and bound for the classification round, Italy were expected to win comfortably but never got themselves untracked in the opening 20 minutes.
But it all changed after half-time as they used a 17-0 run to take complete control and end Montenegro's hopes of a morale-boosting win.
However, last year's Division B runners-up can still take plenty of heart into their bid to avoid relegation this weekend after enjoying the better of the first half.
A 7-0 run saw them lead 35-26 on Milos Divac's jump-shot, and alarm bells were ringing for Italy.
Montenegro led 46-40 when Nikola Vukcevic opened the second half with a three-pointer but Andrea La Torre's lay-up in reply was the start of a 10-0 run that put Italy up 50-46 on Luca Cesana's three-pointer.
They then killed off Montenegro for good with 17 unanswered points, leading 72-50 when Davide Moretti hit a jump-shot with 5:42 remaining.
Andrea Pecchia led Italy with 13 points while Tommaso Guariglia had 12 and Moretti 10.
Milos Popovic had 14 points and nine rebounds for Montenegro, with Todor Radonjic adding 13.
Italy wrap up Group F play in third place with a 3-2 record, while Montenegro are 0-5.
