Serbia Remain In Hunt For Fifth Place

Ognjen Jaramaz (Serbia)
Ognjen Jaramaz delivered his best performance of the tournament, scoring 26 points and grabbing nine rebounds

Turning Point: Six of Serbia's first seven fourth-quarter baskets came in the paint. France managed to still put points on the scoreboard, but the easy scores helped Serbia establish a game-high 15-point lead with three minutes remaining.

Game Hero: Ognjen Jaramaz had a great night scoring the ball and his big third quarter enabled Serbia to repel a French comeback.

Stats Don't Lie: Serbia's greatest strength is their team play and their 19 assists to France's eight proved to a difference maker.

Serbia will play-off for the fifth spot on the final day of the U18 European Championship after defeating France 77-66 in Saturday's second classification games for 5th to 8th place.

Petr Cornelie provided the early highlight, a thunderous dunk over Milenko Veljkovic , but it was a 60% shooting, 24-point quarter from Serbia that was most important as center Vasilije Vucetic provided 11 points down low.

The French controlled a low-scoring start to the second period before Lenny Charles-Catherine ignited the crowd with two high-flying dunks and Etienne Ory cut an eight-point deficit down to one seconds before the half with a three.

An intent France threatened to steal the lead, but nine third-quarter points from Ognjen Jaramaz, who made four of his team's five field goals, ensured Serbia would go into the final term possessing a lead.

Serbia's lead hit double-figures two and a half minutes into the fourth and the sheer number of easy buckets in the paint saw France fall behind by as many as 15 late in the game.

Jaramaz was sensational, scoring 26 points to go with nine rebounds. Vucetic cooled after his hot start but still managed 14 points and nine rebounds while Dejan Davidovac added 13 points.

Damien Inglis scored a team-high 21 points for France.
