|David Brembly chipped in with 11 points and 7 rebounds for Germany in a hugely important win|
Germany seized initiative once they scored their first points on Friday and reached a 66-56 win over Serbia that sees them through to the Sportland U20 European Championship Second Round and their opponents in the Classification Round.
The Germans will advance to the next phase as third in Group A, with Lithuania and Greece fighting for first place, while Serbia face an encounter with Georgia on Saturday to determine who takes fourth spot.
On Friday, Serbia shot better from two-point range but while Germany were cautious with the ball and tried to make every possession count, the Balkan side already had turned the ball over 15 times shortly after the start of the second half.
Germany took perfect advantage of that fact and although their lead was always slim, they never relinquished it.
They were up 35-29 at the half-time interval and Serbia only came within three points late into the third quarter, before David Brembly restored the usual five-point cushion for the Germans with a jump-shot, 51-46 at the end of the period.
A German 6-0 mini-run midway through the final stanza put them ahead 57-48 with 5:34 left to play and that advantage proved more than sufficient to put an end to Serbia's hopes in such a low-scoring affair.
Bogdan Radosavljevic and Alexander Blessig finished with 12 points apiece for Germany while Brembly collected 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Serbia's Nemanja Bezbradica led all scorers with 17 points and Luka Mitrovic had 15 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
