GAME REPORT

Greece Pulls Out First Victory

15. Artemis Spanou (Greece)
Artemis Spanou found her rhythm at the right time for Greece, picking up a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double

Greece held off Poland for a 54-50 win, and improved to a 1-1 record in Group B of the U20 European Championship Women on Friday.

In a low-scoring first half, Poland held Greece almost 10 minutes without a field goal, but all they could show for that was a 16-9 lead midway through the second quarter.

Artemis Spanou and Anthoula Chatzigiakoumi took over in the third quarter, scoring eight points each as Greece took the lead for good and preserved it in a tense finish.

In a tight contest, Greece were 6-for-20 overall from downtown, but more telling was that five of these came from nine attempts in the second half.

Spanou finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Chatzigiakoumi scored 14. Karolina Puss and Dominika Owczarzak had 10 apiece for Poland.
