|Isis Arrondo and Nantes Reze lost on Wednesday, but still advance to the EuroCup Women Quarter-Finals|
Nantes Reze went down 67-62 to visiting Olimpia in the EuroCup Women Eighth Finals on Wednesday night, but still became the first team to advance to the last eight of the competition by way of their resounding first-leg victory.
The French side already had one foot in the quarter-finals ahead of the second meeting, having emerged from Grodno with a convincing 77-59 win.
Nevertheless, they won't have enjoyed losing to their opponents from Belarus who were fuelled by an excellent 20-point contribution from Nadzeya Drozd, and 14 rebounds from Lyubov Alyoshkina.
It was the home side that dominated on the glass, but a lack of aggression going to the hoop meant they barely found themselves at the free-throw line - unlike Olimpia who were there 20 times.
The game was effectively decided during the last six minutes when having been one-point ahead, the visitors managed to open a little chink of daylight at 63-57.
Whilst Isis Arrondo sunk a three-ball for Nantes to half the arrears inside the last minute, Olimpia did the business from the line to take the win, although the damage had already been done during the first-leg.
Nantes Reze coach Emmanuel Coeuret
"We were ridiculous. We didn't play... 25 turnovers! Yes, I think my players had too much confidence before this game. Grodno shot 20 free-throws - my players, only seven. It means that there is only one team who wanted to win. I don't like the look we gave to our fans tonight. We didn't deserve to win. That's all."
