GAME REPORT

Krasnye Krylia Soar High In Game One

Lamayn Wilson (Krasnye Krylia)
Lamayn Wilson had a solid debut for Krasnye Krylia with 12 points and 9 rebounds

An understrength Telekom Baskets Bonn have been left with everything to do to remain alive at home on Thursday, falling to Krasnye Krylia 80-60 in game one of the EuroChallenge quarter-final play-offs on Tuesday night.

After being gracious hosts by allowing their visitors to score the opening points of the night, Krasnye Krylia bit back with a vengeance, picking up 12 points over the course of the next two minutes to open up a 12-2 lead.

Half-time arrived and the early advantage given up still had not been breached as Chester Simmons' sharp-shooting from beyond the arc stretched the home team's lead out to 19 points when the hooter sounded.

Simmons completed the opening half with 13 points on three-for-four three-point shooting whilst fellow American Omar Thomas had 11.

If Telekom Baskets were going to make an indent on the deficit they were facing in the second half, it was going to require someone to light up from outside the arc.

However, the nine-man roster could only manage a paltry 3-for-21 from downtown on the night, as the guests failed to make an impression on the hefty gap.

Sergey Bazarevich used his sizable half-time advantage to rotate his bench for the last 20 minutes with every one of his 12 players seeing at least eight minutes court time, meaning his starting players barely troubled the scorers in the second half.

Simmons went on to finish with a team-high 16 points, whilst Thomas was one back with 15. New signing Lamayn Wilson chipped in with 12 points and nine boards.

Robert Vaden topped scoring for the Germans with 14 points.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Krasnye Krylia vs. Telekom Baskets Bonn

Krasnye Krylia head coach Sergei Bazarevich
"
We started very aggressive, the way we wanted. In the first half we played well enough, thus getting that advantage. Wilson came out very useful. In the second half there was a number of wrong decisions, which disappointed me. To play well there should be correct decisions. That concerns greatly the young players."

Bonn head coach Michael Koch
"
We didn’t start good in the first half. After halftime we began playing better. I congratulate Krasnye Krylia to a well-deserved win. We will try to improve and play better in the second game."

Bonn guard Andrej Mangold
"
I congratulate our opponent to the win, Krasnye Krylia played better. But we missed two of our key players, who got injured and could not help us today in Samara. We have some young players who are not experienced enough at this level."

Krasnye Krylia center Yuri Vasiliev
"We motivate ourselves in a different way when it is a EuroChallenge game coming, as we want to reach the ultimate goal in this tournament. We started the game well, played good on offense, had a number of fast breaks. All that gave us an advantage to achieve the victory. It is very important to win the first game in a series, but there is one more ahead of us, and we should maintain our concentration and focus."
