GAME REPORT

Big Second Half Gives EWE Baskets Victory

11. Adam Chubb (EWE Baskets)
Adam Chubb topped scoring for EWE Baskets with 14 points

EWE Baskets put on a master class peformance in the second half to beat Telekom Baskets 82-65 on the road and move to 2-0 in Group L of the EuroChallenge.

A tight opening 20 minutes left Telekom with a 33-31 advantage at half-time, but if the home fans were hopeful of their team hanging on to the narrow lead they had held most of the way, they would be sorely disappointed.

The visitors nosed in front twice but it was not until midway through the third period that they made their decisive break.

Jared Jordan's three-pointer for Telekom made it 44-43 to the visitors, but Ronald Burrell's three then sparked a 21-6 run to the end of the period, with a three from Julius Jenkins making it 65-49 just before the buzzer.

They then scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter and the game was all but up for Telekom.

Adam Chubb led EWE Baskets with 14 points while Burrell and Rickey Paulding had 12 each and Dominik Bahiense de Mello 10.

Kyle Weems had 14 points for Telekom with Robert Vaden adding 11.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Telekom Baskets vs. EWE Baskets

Telekom Baskets Bonn head coach Michael Koch

"Today we've shown two totally different halves of a ballgame. After intermission we were not able to match Oldenburg's aggressiveness, toughness and physical type of play. You can not allow somebody to come into your building and beat you the way Oldenburg did. In EuroChallenge play everything is still possible. What I want to see from my team is a strong reaction on Sunday, when we face Bremerhaven on the national hardwood."

Telekom Baskets Bonn player Jamel McLean

"In the second half we were not able to keep up with Oldenburg's intensity. They hit us with a couple of fast break points that we were not able to compensate down the stretch."

EWE Baskets Oldenburg head coach Sebastian Machowski

"We have seen a game in which both sides struggled to find a rhythm during the first half. My team had an offensive breakthrough in the third period, therefore we won in the long run. Overall I am happy with what we have accomplished thus far, but we have to keep on working hard to keep our streak alive."

EWE Baskets Oldenburg player Dominik Bahiense de Mello

"We had a rather sluggish start, but were able to find a good stride on defence in the third stanza. On offence we found open gaps and used those to our advantage. I am happy we continued to keep up our concentration level until the game's end."
