GAME REPORT

Kormend Rally Keeps Them Alive

14. Zvonko Buljan (Körmend)
Zvonko Buljan's double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds sparked Körmend in their first win

Kormend rallied to pull out the win they needed over BC Timisoara to stay alive in Group F of the EuroChallenge, although the last 16 prospects of neither team appears particularly strong at this point.

Kormend were facing elimination as they trailed 70-58 late in the third quarter of this must-win game, having been behind for virtually all of the contest.

But Zvonko Buljan's three-pointer was the start of a 15-0 run that stretched into the fourth quarter and gave Kormend a 73-70 lead on Csaba Ferencz's driving lay-up with 6:59 left in the contest.

Dominique Archie tied it with a three-pointer for Timisoara but it was the last time they would be on level terms as Buljan's lay-up saw Kormend begin to pull clear.

Matthew Shaw put the hosts 82-76 up and after Marko Derasimovic and Zlatko Jovanovic missed back-to-back three-point attempts for Timisoara, Kormend began to ease away.

The gap was 93-86 with 48 ticks left following free throws from Archie, but although Vincent Simpson could only split a pair for Kormend, Buljan grabbed the rebound and Ferencz killed it off with a three-pointer.

Shaw poured in 33 points and Buljan had 29 with 10 rebounds to account for almost two-thirds of Kormend's scoring, while Ferencz had most of the rest with 19.

Robert Sarovic led Timisoara with 19 points while Jovanovic had 15, Delvon Johnson 14 and Archie and Derasimovic 13.

The result leaves both teams at 1-3.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Lami-Ved Körmend vs. BC Timisoara

Lami-Véd Körmend head coach Tamás Hencsey
"We played very sleepy in the first 3 quarters. As it happened several times we started to feel the rhythym of the game in the fourth quarter. We changed our defense and we broke the plays of our opponent with our trapping. We could achive a lot of fast and easy makes from the rebounds we had in that period. I had three players providing outstanding performances on attack and another one who played very well in defense. Gergely Fodor led our defense with excellence. I am very thankful to everybody for his job and I am very happy that we already have a win also in this series. I hope this will be a constructive way in terms of our future.

Timisoara head coach Predrag Badnjarevic
"Congratulations to Körmend. They played great int he fourth quarter. The first three quarters were dominated by us but it was not enough to win the game where the level was so low. I am sure both teams need to think about this."

BC Timisoara player Andrei Capusan
"We controlled the game for about 30 minutes but then Körmend could turn the game with easy goals and we had no answer for that."

Lami-Véd Körmend player Ferencz Csaba
"The first three quarters looked like a training game. The opponent lead by some points but we changed our defense and we could turn the flow of the game. I would like to higlight the work of Gergely Fodor who played extremly good in our defense. We had a lot of easy goals and this led us to win this game."
