GAME REPORT  | Rickey Paulding led a balanced Oldenburg attack with 15 points

Ten players scored at least five points as EWE Baskets Oldenburg cruised to a 95-64 victory at home over Lami Ved Körmend to remain undefeated in Group F action in the EuroChallenge. Robin Smeulders and Rickey Paulding both scored 15 points and Julius Jenkins and Chris Kramer each added 12 points as Oldenburg won their third straight home game to top the group. Körmend dropped to 0-3 - with two road losses - despite Zvonko Buljan scoring 21 points, Matthew Shaw hitting for 16 and Csaba Ferencz adding 14 points. Oldenburg jumped on the Hungarian guests right away with a 12-0 run to open a 14-2 lead. Körmend pulled to within 16-10 but the balanced hosts increased the cushion to 23-10 before leading 23-13 after one quarter. Two scores by Buljan and a long ball from Ferencz cut the gap to 30-23. Oldenburg however rattled off a 13-5 run and led 43-28 at halftime. Shaw and Ferencz were on target in bringing the margin to 43-33 but Jenkins answered with a triple. And after Vincent Simpson cut the deficit to 52-42, Oldenburg went on an 11-0 run for a 63-42 lead. The cushion was 71-47 after three quarters. The hosts cruised out to a 10-2 surge to start the fourth period to bury all hopes of a comeback, leading 81-49. The lead would grow to 33 points and Körmend would not get closer than 29 the rest of the way. |

COACH QUOTESKörmend head coach Tamas Hencsey:
"Tonight we saw a big difference between the two teams. We did not defend that well and offensively we missed too many shots. We also got out-rebounded by 13 rebounds which is way too much. Plus, we also missed 14 free throws. We have a small team this year. That does not make it easier when you play against a team like Oldenburg. But, we can only learn from this experience." Körmend player Zvonko Buljan:
"We are obviously disappointed with the result. With three losses in the group we will have a hard time qualifying, but we will give it our best. We have more home games coming up, so that might give us a boost in the coming games. Today we trailed for the whole time and it was exhausting that we were never able to make it a close game." Oldenburg head coach Sebastian Machowski:
"This is the second time for us losing an away game in the Bundesliga and then playing in the EuroChallenge shortly after that. That, again, gave us a chance to prove ourselves. It is nice to win a game like this but there is a difference between playing against Ulm and playing against Körmend. Against Ulm we maybe had the most intense training session of the year. Today, we lost our rhythm offensively a couple of times but we defended very well and got more rebounds than our opponent. Hopefully this win will give us the confidence that we need for our next game against Hagen in the Bundesliga." Oldenburg player Robin Smeulders:
"This victory is very good for our morale. We have some tough tests coming up in the Bundesliga and we need to build on this victory. We played very good defense and rebounded very well, especially on the offensive boards. It was good to see that everybody got involved today and that we were able to share the minutes between all 11 players."

COACH QUOTESKörmend head coach Tamas Hencsey:
"Tonight we saw a big difference between the two teams. We did not defend that well and offensively we missed too many shots. We also got out-rebounded by 13 rebounds which is way too much. Plus, we also missed 14 free throws. We have a small team this year. That does not make it easier when you play against a team like Oldenburg. But, we can only learn from this experience." Körmend player Zvonko Buljan:
"We are obviously disappointed with the result. With three losses in the group we will have a hard time qualifying, but we will give it our best. We have more home games coming up, so that might give us a boost in the coming games. Today we trailed for the whole time and it was exhausting that we were never able to make it a close game." "This is the second time for us losing an away game in the Bundesliga and then playing in the EuroChallenge shortly after that. That, again, gave us a chance to prove ourselves. It is nice to win a game like this but there is a difference between playing against Ulm and playing against Körmend. Against Ulm we maybe had the most intense training session of the year. Today, we lost our rhythm offensively a couple of times but we defended very well and got more rebounds than our opponent. Hopefully this win will give us the confidence that we need for our next game against Hagen in the Bundesliga." Oldenburg player Robin Smeulders:
"This victory is very good for our morale. We have some tough tests coming up in the Bundesliga and we need to build on this victory. We played very good defense and rebounded very well, especially on the offensive boards.
