GAME REPORT

Clark’s Hot Hand Leads Okapi To Victory

Sir Jason Clark (Okapi Aalstar)
The main force on offense for Okapi Aalstar: Jason Clark

Jason Clark had 25 points to lead Okapi Aalstar to a key win over Mons-Hainaut as the scrap for a last 16 berth continued in Group E of the EuroChallenge.

With both teams starting the night at 2-1 this was an opportunity to make a major move, and Clark ensured it was his team who would take it with some efficient shooting, making seven of 10 from the paint and eight of nine from the line.

After a battling first quarter, Okapi began to ease clear in the second quarter and a 12-0 run turned a tied game into a 48-36 lead on Derek Raivio's free throws shortly before half-time.

Clark hit the first points of the second half and Ryan Thompson followed it with a three-pointer as they went 53-39 clear, setting the tone for a third period that took the game away from Mons-Hainaut.

Back-to-back shots from Raivio late in the period made it 68-51 and the lead hit 20, 75-55, on Larry Anderson's jump-shot early in the fourth, with no way back for the visitors.

Thompson added 19 points for Okapi while Raivio and Christopher Young had 13 each, and Thomas Dreesen added 11.

Joshua Bostic led Mons-Hainaut with 20 points while Jonathan Wallace had 19 and Monwell Randle 17.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Okapi Aalstar vs. Belfius Mons-Hainaut

Okapi Aalstar head coach Brad Dean
"After 5 minutes I was worried about our foul trouble but my team is growing throughout the season. They take less bad decisions than in the past, so they could handle the foul trouble. The qualification for the second round is in our hands now."

Okapi Aalstar player Jason Clark
"We had some difficulties to come in the game. We didn't find our rythm and made too many mistakes. But we came together and took take advantage of our strenghts. We had a nice run at the end of the second quarter and could control the rest of the game."

Mons head coach Yves Defraigne
"Basically we didn't play well especially on the 1 on 1 we were dominated by Aalst. We had more shots than Okapi but we played the wrong way. We went too quick in our shot selection and they took advantage of the easy baskets to win the game."

Mons player Brian Qvale
"We didn't slow Okapi down in transition. It was a high scoring game. There were a lot of 1 on 1 situations and Okapi took advantage of them to win the game."
