A big final five minutes secured an ultimately comfortable 89-74 win for BK Ventspils over Tampereen Pyrinto in Finland.
The hosts had come storming back in the third quarter to make a contest of a game they had been losing 45-34 at half-time, but the Latvians outscored them 22-9 in the final five minutes to take the victory.
Tampereen had made their move late in the third quarter. They trailed 60-41 after a Ronalds Zakis three-pointer, but back-to-back three-pointers from Carl Lindbom and Antero Lehto sparked the come back, and by the time Lehto ended the period with a lay-up they had scored 16 straight to make it a three-point contest.
That run extended into the fourth, with Kenneth Lowe's free throws putting Tampereen 61-60 up before Arturs Berzins snapped a 20-0 streak.
Ventspils rebuilt a small advantage but Tampereen were still in touch as Lowe's jump shot made it 67-65 with 5:10 left.
That is when the visitors turned it on, however, with Martins Meiers' jump-shot starting a 10-0 run that decisively broke the game open.
Zakis led Ventspils with 20 points while Meiers had 14, Folarin Campbell 13 and Martins Laksa, Donald Sims and Berzins 11 each.
Tampereen wasted 31 points from Lowe, with Lamonte Ulmer, Damon Williams and Lindbom adding 10 each.
