|Lindsay Whalen is leading Galatasaray in points and assists per game|
Galatasaray bounced back to winning ways in EuroLeague Women Group C after playmaker Lindsay Whalen landed 21 points to spearhead a comfortable 70-59 success at USO Mondeville.
Having lost their previous game in surprising fashion by crashing at home to CCC Polkowice, successive losses were never a truly realistic prospect with Gala eager to get back on track.
They signalled their intent early, easing their way into a 21-12 advantage at the start of the second quarter as Alba Torrens scored at the hoop.
However, the home side were also eager to secure an improvement having produced their worst display of the season with a nightmare evening in Salamanca a week earlier.
They rallied with nine straight points and tied the game up. In fact, they were only denied a shock half-time lead after Whalen put Gala ahead 31-30, just seconds after Noel Kuin had put the hosts ahead.
It was just as tight approaching the end of the penultimate period with Galatasaray leading by a single point. But, point guard Isil Alben then stepped up and extended their lead with a three-ball.
It sparked a 10-0 run either side of the third and fourth quarter break which effectively killed off any hopes USO Mondeville had of springing an upset - despite 14 rebounds from Naignouma Coulibay.
In addition to the work of Whalen, it was a good night for Torrens who had 12 points in 17 minutes.
USO Mondeville head coach Herve Coudray:
"To win this game we had to start our offense from our defense. It was a fight, we had to be tough to play their interior defense. They had too many second chances to stay in the game. Against that team you need to play 100 percent to win."
USO Mondeville player Noel Kuin:
"It was a tough game against a very good team with a lot of talented players. That kind of loss helps us to grow up and to improve our play. I feel very comfortable in the team now, I have to learn how Mondeville is playing."
