|Sylvia Fowles collected a doubl-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds in only 22 minutes on the court|
Sylvia Fowles produced one of the best performances of the season so far in EuroLeague Women as her super double-double propelled Galatasaray to an excellent 66-52 win at ZVVZ USK Prague in Group C.
The center finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, but most impressively of all, was nine-of-ten from the floor against an opposing frontcourt boasting Rebekkah Brunson and Kia Vaughn.
It was mainly Fowles and yet more excellent defence from the Turkish side which laid the foundation for the win.
Prague were actually leading midway through the second quarter at 23-22 after a pair of free throws from Jelena Skerovic, but a sloppy finish to the half proved to be costly.
Fowles added eight points in a handful of minutes to take the visitors into a 33-26 lead, and when Isil Alben made a triple soon after the break when the play resumed to take the lead out to ten points, it looked a long way back for the hosts.
And, so it proved, as both Vaughn and Brunson got themselves into foul trouble by each picking up a fourth foul which was to prove a real problem as Galatasaray increased their effectiveness inside even more.
It also made scoring for Prague a real problem and consequently the game drifted away from them as Gala easily saw out another victory to remain unbeaten on the road.
Only Brunson managed to reach double figures for Prague after scraping together 11 points.
Galatasaray head coach Ekrem Memnun:
"We are happy that we won today, because we were afraid before the game. USK is a team with big potential and experienced players. Today´s victory is great for us. Finally we won by 14 points, it can seem as an easy game, but it wasn´t at all. The key factor was the great defense of our team."
Galatasaray player Yasemen Saylar:
"As the coach said before, the opponent is very strong playing home. But we worked great in defense, played aggressive and that led us to the victory, which I am happy about."
Prague head coach Natalia Hejkova:
"As they are happy we are unhappy today, because we hoped we could win the game. The shooting percentage was only 35 percent today, which is very low. The key factor were the rebounds, we let the opponent win in this activity and that cost us a lot of energy. That was why we also lost today."
Prague player Ilona Burgrová:
"Unfortunately they dominated under the basket. It is really a pity, because if we had more rebounds we would play easier and wouldn't be so down."
