|Gabriela Marginean was once more the top scorer for Targoviste, leading her side to the play-offs|
The party has started for Municipal Targoviste after they ended a six-game losing streak to claim a 72-64 win against EuroLeague Women Group B leaders Good Angels Kosice and cement their place in the play-offs.
Fittingly, it was Romanian national team star Gabriela Marginean who led the way for the jubilant home team, pouring in 21 points to seal fifth spot and in the process, eliminate UE Sopron who would have advanced had Targoviste failed to win.
The hosts benefitted from a confident and productive start to the game, racing into a 21-13 lead after the first quarter after finishing the period with a flourish by recording eight unanswered points.
Their advantage was then extended to 31-18 after an Ivanka Matic score during the second quarter, and they still held a priceless 12-point cushion by the time they stepped out for the second half.
Worryingly for the home fans, Targoviste endured a sloppy finish to the third quarter and that allowed Kosice to creep back into the contest and make it a one-shot game at 50-47 heading into the last ten minutes.
And, in a nerve-wracking finale, it was still a three-point game with less than ninety seconds on the game clock at 65-62.
But, Targoviste found the required composure from the free-throw line to progress, making seven of eight free throws down the stretch.
Plenette Pierson had a double-double 17 points and 10 rebounds for Kosice who still finished the Regular Season as Group B winners.
