Good Angels Take Sixth Win In Sopron

22. Alexandria Quigley (Good Angels Kosice)
Alexandria Quigleyled Kosice with 24 points

There's no stopping Good Angels Kosice right now after the Slovak club claimed a sixth EuroLeague Women Group B victory in eight games after surviving a late scare to take a 69-64 win at UE Sopron.

It was a wonderfully vibrant encounter with absolutely nothing between the clubs for most of the first half and it was only during the third quarter when Good Angels finally managed to put some daylight between the teams.

And, whilst the cushion they built up proved to be just about enough in the end, it was a close-run thing.

In a dramatic conclusion, Sopron threatened to come back from the dead in the last few minutes when having trailed by as many as 13 points at 60-47 early in the final quarter, giving themselves an unlikely chance of forcing overtime.

As the Kosice offence evaporated by only managing seven points in almost eight minutes, the home fans in Sopron sensed a memorable comeback and scented a potential shock.

The failure of the visitors to keep the scoreboard ticking over meant that with just a couple of seconds remaining, they still led 67-64, but Jelena Milovanovic had the chance to force the extra period with a three-pointer.

But, she couldn't get it to drop, and from the resulting free throws on the defensive rebound which was gleefully clutched by Plenette Pierson, the forward calmly iced both shots to make matters safe for her team.

Pierson scored 20 points and Allie Quigley had 24 for the winning team with Zsofia Fegyverneky impressing for Sopron with 19 points, five assists and three steals.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Uniqua Euroleasing Sopron vs. Good Angels Kosice

Sopron head coach Norbert Székely:
"Two good teams tried to find the gaps on the defense. It's positive that we came back from 13 points, but it's a bad feeling that we lost the game, and again only with few points. I'm proud of our team, and hope that we can win games like this in the future."

Sopron player Jelena Milovanovic:
"We tried to win the game also after our bad period, but the 13-point difference was too much, and Kosice is a good team, they didn't let to us come back from this deficit."

Kosice head coach Maros Kovacik:
"We knew it will be a difficult game, because Sopron lost a lot of games only with few points. In the last quarter we led by 13 points, but after that we lost the confidence on offense. But in the last two minutes our players have shown why they are here. We are very happy!"

Kosice player Allie Quigley:
"It was a good feeling to come back to Sopron, where I played a lot of games. I'm proud of this success which we reached as a team!"
