|Miljana Bojovic averages 7.5 assists in the EuroLeague Women|
Good Angels Kosice snapped the three-game winning streak of Municipal Targoviste in EuroLeague Women Group B, after a blistering second quarter and some great work in the paint laid the foundation for a 93-78 success.
Whilst the confident visitors made the better start with a 20-14 lead after the opening 10 minutes, this was soon forgotten as the home side began to shift through the gears and set about bouncing back from last week's reverse in Istanbul against Fenerbahce.
The Good Angels found new rhythm offensively, and Targoviste just couldn't cope with the threat posed by the home side under the basket.
They leaked 31 points in the second period which meant their advantage evaporated quickly, and they also found themselves down by double figures at 45-34 heading into the second half.
Targoviste found the Kosice frontcourt far too hot to handle, as Petra Kulichova, Plenette Pierson and Tijana Krivacevic combined for 49 points, attained via some impressive 60% floor shooting.
Central to that success was point guard Miljana Bojovic, who passed the 40 assists landmark in her sixth game this season, by adding another nine to help put Targoviste to the sword.
The visitors got back to within five points during the second half, but never looked like retrieving the initiative which they had lost shortly before half-time.
The one bright spot for Targoviste was the return to action of the highly rated Claudia Pop who has spent much of her time injured of late.
Targoviste head coach Georgios Dikeoulakos:
"We played against one of the best teams in the group and in EuroLeague Women too; this season Kosice has shown very good chemistry what proves they are very good team - I wish them all the best and good luck. We came here with a plan which worked excellent in the first quarter but the second quarter was a disaster for us. We were very bad in offense and also in defense. We weren't able to come across this catastrophic second quarter because they have very good experienced players and a good coach."
Targoviste player Gabriela Marginean:
"It was a tough game, we didn't start well. We didn't play together and we were angry, nervous we couldn't catch the game rhythm. Kosice just took advantage of us and they played well. In the second half we got back for a while - today wasn't our day. Even though we started bad, we were able to be up with a few points but we lost it due to lack of our concentration."
Good Angels head coach Maros Kovacik:
"I shall repeat my words, victory is the most important. Every game and opponent in EuroLeague Women is tough and you have to play on a very high level to beat an opponent by 15 points on home court and we did it. Although the opening stages of the game weren't as we planned, the girls caught the rhythm and the period from the 12th to 17th minute in the second quarter was absolutely amazing from our side. You can't see a 21:0 streak in EuroLeague Women every day, so this is a big satisfaction."
Good Angels player Plenette Pierson:
"It was a great win for us. We played really aggressive defense - we faced a team on a winning streak, they got three wins in a row, and we ended that just like we did with Schio. After the first quarter we really improved our defense and it led to easy baskets what decided the game. Defense is key for us but we can't stop every great team, but this time it led to our victory."
