|Seimone Augustus had 13 points for Sparta&K, adding a game-high six assists|
A fantastic final quarter was enough for Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje to take a 72-61 win at Rivas Ecopolis and claim a 10th win on the final night of the Regular Season in EuroLeague Women Group A.
Russian national team forward Marina Kuzina was the instigator of the success, producing a terrific inside-outside display en route to 19 points. She was 8-of-10 from the floor and sunk three baskets from behind the arc.
Initially, coach Pokey Chatman and her team had to do it the hard way, coming from behind, having trailed by as many as 24-13 in the early stages after an inside bucket for the hosts by Laura Nicholls.
However, Sparta&K found their range via Kuzina and launched a fightback ahead of half-time to turn the game on its head.
They shifted through the gears in rapid fashion and turned the double-figure deficit into a five-point lead with a superb 25-9 finish to the half.
It changed the game as Sparta&K kept their noses in front for the remainder of the third period before their late surge.
A blistering final period took Sparta&K away from their hosts as they outscored Rivas 19-7 to continue their momentum with a fourth straight success.
Oleksandra Kurasova had 16 points and eight rebounds for Rivas.
Sparta&K head coach Pokey Chatman:
"I think that we were able to show our best defence in the second half, we've had some bad shots before, and their players were very active. We were struggling playing transition, but we stepped up in the second quarter. We knew that it'd be a tough game, it's always like that here, and we're happy about getting this win."
Sparta&K player Marina Kuzina:
"For me, the key is that we're doing good practices and we felt good during the warm up. We were able to play together, as a team; we hit some good three-pointers, two-pointers ... We had a good shooting day and that helped a lot to close the game."
Rivas head coach Miguel Mendez:
"As a recap, I would say that we played to the limits. We're having problems with our post players, as Ziomara Morrison is injured and Aneika Henry played through illness, and that toughness inside which is a good feature of our team, we lacked it tonight. We had problems attacking their zone, our backcourt players struggled to find easy shots. We suffer when we cannot run and Sparta&K knew how to find our weakness."
Rivas player Anna Cruz:
"It was clear that they have a deeper roster, they accounted on our problems with the inside game and knew how to punish us. We were lacking a deeper rotation and, although we tried as hard as we could, we were not able to log the win; they played quite physical."
