GAME REPORT

Artland Stun Karsiyaka In The Fourth

Artland Dragons showed what they're made of by coming from behind in the fourth quarter to win at Pinar Karsiyaka in the EuroChallenge Last 16 on Tuesday.

In one of the toughest venues to play in the competition, the Germans prevailed 99-95.

Karsiyaka had built a 13-point lead with 9:34 remaining but Artland refused to lose.

David Holston, who had a team-high 31 points with 11 coming in the last 5:17 of the contest, sparked a late run for the visitors with a shot from the arc to cut the hosts' lead to 89-84.

Artland's Brandon Thomas followed with a lay-up before Holston cut the deficit to one with a jumper.

Darren Fenn then buried a three-ball to put the Dragons on top, 91-89.

An Adam Hess basket pushed the lead to 93-90, but Karsiyaka pulled level when Jovo Stanojevic scored with a three-point play.

Stanojevic had a game-high 32 points, but they were not enough.

Nathan Peavy's tip-in put the visitors back in front before Holston sank two free-throws against his former team for a four-point Dragons advantage.

Karsiyaka's Mire Chatman reduced the arrears to 97-95 with a drive, taking his points haul to 24, but the Turkish club put Holston on the line and their former playmaker sank both free-throws for a four-point lead.

Chatman's attempt from long range was off target at the end as Artland got a valuable road win to improve to 3-0 in Group L and drop Karsiyaka to 2-1.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Pinar Karsiyaka vs. Artland Dragons

Artland Dragons Head Coach Stefan Koch
"We are so happy to win, especially against a team which won many games in a row in the national league and the EuroChallenge. We realised that they will have confidence on the court. We let their two players Chatman and Jovo to dominate the game in some part, but the good thing is that even when they were leading by 13 points, in front of these great fans and atmosphere, my players stayed calm and played until the end. I'm also happy for Dave, that he had a great game against his former team, and made the team win."

Pınar Karsıyaka Head Coach Hakan Demir
"In a good atmosphere, we started the game well but could not dominate in the first half. The third quarter was different for us than the first half, but after getting in foul trouble, we could not show the same resistance in the 4th quarter, additionally having problems on offense, brought the end."

Artland Dragons player David Holston
"Playing against my former team was a great feeling. I'm happy to win here, and agree with my coach. I never forget the atmosphere, same like when I was here. I was telling my teammates and coach about it, I'm happy they were able to see it too."

Pinar Karsiyaka player İlkan Karaman
"As a team we played well, but our opponent was also tough. We deserved the game maybe, but could not make one more step to win."
