|Triumph needed the win to keep their hopes alive and Jerry Jefferson made sure they'd get it, with a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds|
Triumph Lyubertsy kept alive their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the EuroChallenge with a 79-60 win over Antwerp Giants.
Needing a win to stay alive, Triumph set about earning it with a 13-2 run early in the first quarter, moving 17-6 clear on Sergey Karasev's jump-shot.
When Karasev hit a three-pointer late in the second quarter the gap had grown to 16, 42-26.
Antwerp threatened a rally early in the fourth quarter when Byran Hopkins scored a three-pointer and a lay-up to make it 60-54.
But Triumph responded with 11 straight points, highlighted by a three-pointer from Kyle Landry, to effectively put the game to bed.
Jerry Jefferson led Triumph with 28 points and 10 rebounds, while Karasev had 19 points.
Hopkins had 14 points for Antwerp, with Darnell Wilson adding 11 and seven rebounds.
Triumph now need Artland Dragons to beat Pinar Karsiyaka to advance.
Antwerp Giants Head Coach Eddy Casteels
"I'm very disappointed, we had a chance to qualify to the play-offs. DJ Jefferson played an amazing game, and Karasev, and Kulagin, and Landry. We are the experienced team, and we have a lot of respect to who got us out - a very young and talented team."
BC Triumph Acting Head Coach Vasily Karasev
"After three defeats in a row we had no possibility to lose, so we did all we had to do in this situation. I think that the beginning of the third quarter was the key moment, when we lost a few shots, but we played good defense and we didn't let our opponents tie the score."
Antwerp Giants player Darnell Wilson
"We lost to a very great team, they came out very aggressive and we missed a lot of shots. It was an unlucky day for us, an awful night, now we'll focus on our national league."
BC Triumph player Sergey Karasev
"We were motivated for this game, we had to play only one way - to win! I can't say that it was an easy game, the opponent is very strong, and we tried to do our best."
