France have held off the Czech Republic 60-33 to complete day one action in Panevezys at the U16 European Championship Men.
In a first half that produced few highlights for the fans, France was finally able to break out of the shackles in the third quarter, ending the frame on an 18-5 run to turn a four-point lead into 17 with 10 minutes remaining.
Containing the Czechs to just three points the final quarter, France were able to disguise their own poor shooting display, with the winners making just 31.3% of their shots from the floor on the night.
For France, Etienne Ory, Stephane Gombauld and Cyrille Eliezer-Vanerot all ended the game with 10 points.
Also with 10 points, Matej Svoboda was the only Czech player to achieve double figures.
France head coach Tahar Assed-Liegeon will now be looking to address his team's shooting problems before they meet Poland on Friday. The Czech Republic meet at an impressive Greek team in the final game of the day in Panevezys.
