Schilb Hands Chalon Victory Over Roanne

11. Blake Schilb (Elan Chalon)
Elan Chalon's Blake Schilb already had 23 points before making the most important shot of the game

Blake Schilb has provided Elan Chalon with many a highlight in his time with the club and on Tuesday night, he served up another.

Schilb drilled a game-winning jumper in the waning seconds for Chalon in a 75-73 victory over French rivals Chorale Roanne in the EuroChallenge Quarter-Final opener.

The Coupe de France MVP of last season, Schilb finished with a game-high 25 points.

Malcolm Delaney also had a terrific night for Chalon with 18 points and 10 boards.

In a tight game from start to finish, Roanne managed to go in front by seven early in the fourth quarter but did not press home the advantage.

Their last lead came with 1:31 to go after a three-pointer from Dylan Page made it 71-70.

Schilb went to the other end and buried a three to put Chalon back in front.

Rashad Wright knotted the game at 73-73 with a jumper for Roanne just 14 seconds from the end but Schilb put the hosts back in front with the last points of a thrilling contest.

John Holland had one final attempt to tie the game for Roanne but was off target.

Roanne were just 12 of 21 at the free-throw line for a woeful 57.1% while Chalon were an excellent 22 of 24 (91.7%).

Gregor Beugnot's team will hit the road on Thursday and try to sweep Roanne in the best-of-three series.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Elan Chalon vs. Roanne Basket

Chorale Roanne Head Coach Luka Pavicevic
"Congratulations to Greg Beugnot and the team of Chalon. We had good referees tonight, I am worried because we played against another French team but this is the only way to go to the Final Four. But Chalon is first in the championship, we tried to make a difference and surprise them tonight. We don't have to forget we played in Chalon."

Elan Chalon Head Coach Greg Beugnot
"We needed to stay in this game, it was a duel during 40 minutes tonight, we had trouble in rebounds and we need to correct it before the next game."

Chorale Roanne player Mouloukou Diabate
"We are frustrated about this game, we made mistakes and we missed a lot of free throws but in general we did a good job tonight, and we're going to do our best in 48 hours to come back to Chalon next week."

Elan Chalon player Blake Schilb
"It was a big surprise tonight for the first game, the two teams began very well but we need to be better on Tuesday at Roanne. They have two good big men and we were may be tired because we had made a good Friday game in the league."
