Szolnoki Olaj stayed alive in the EuroChallenge with an 82-76 victory over BK Ventspils in Hungary on Thursday to set up a deciding third game in the Quarter-Final tie. Obie Trotter had 19 points, Akos Horvath 14 and Brandon Gay 12 as the hosts lived to fight another day. Trailing 72-71 with 3:11 remaining after a lay-up by Latvia international Martins Meiers for Ventspils, Szolnoki went back in front to stay when Trotter and Marton Fodor buried back-to-back three-pointers. Steven Gray scored on a fast break for Ventspils to cut the deficit to three, but Fodor struck again with another three-ball for an 80-74 Szolnoki lead. Trotter added two free-throws with nine seconds to go to make it 82-74 and seal victory. Ventspils had a balanced scoring attack, led by Young's 14 points. They will be favoured to win Game 3 at home. In their opener, Ventspils prevailed 82-63 but with a Final Four spot at stake, Szolnoki will pull out all stops to win on the road. |
