GAME REPORT

Telekom Baskets Overcome Turk Telekom

13. Mehmet Okur (Türk Telekom)
Mehmet Okur and Türk Telekom could not stop the shooting of Bonn and went down to the German side

Telekom Baskets Bonn pulled away from Turk Telecom in the second half on Wednesday evening in the EuroChallenge clash played in Germany.

In the battle of Group G teams looking for their first win, Anthony Gaffney had 19 points and Jared Jordan poured in 18 while dishing out 12 assists as Bonn prevailed, 87-80.

The Ankara club was on top 51-50 with 4:43 to go in the third quarter but Gaffney scored on a lay-up and Bonn teammate Zvonko Buljan followed with a jumper.

Jordan then finished the 7-0 run by drilling a three-pointer on a fast-break for a 57-51 lead.

The wheels came off for the Turkish club not long after.

Fabian Thülig's three-point play made it 64-57 at the end of the third quarter and Jordan popped another three-ball to start the fourth for a 67-57 advantage.

The lead ballooned to 82-64 with 3:37 to play and though Turk Telekom went on a 16-5 run to pull to within 87-80, only 11 seconds remained.

Ali Karadeniz had 22 points and Darius Washington 20 for Turk Telekom.

Mehmet Okur also weighed in with 19 points and seven rebounds in defeat.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Telekom Baskets vs. Türk Telekom

Telekom Baskets Bonn Head Coach Michael Koch:

„This has been an important game for us. Besides winning I did not like to see us committing 18 turnovers and force some bad shots. It shows some quality that my team was hungry enough to initiate some decisive runs in the second half. Before intermission we hesitated on our three point attempts way too often. That change in the second half, especially when Turk Telekom played some zone defense."

Telekom Baskets Bonn Guard Jared Jordan:
„We came out to protect our home court, and that‘s what we accomplished. This win takes us back into the race for one of the top two spots in our group."

Turk Telekom Ankara Head Coach Timucin Meric:
„This is the second straight loss for us, which we are unhappy with. In the first quarter we showed not enough concentration and did not stop Bonn‘s fast breaks in the second half. Still we want to win the next games to have a chance for making it into the second round."

Turk Telekom Ankara Forward Ali Karadeniz:
„Bonn executed their Plays down the stretch. After a flat start into the game we had to come from behind most of the time. We never really caught up and ran out of gas late in the fourth stanza. We still got our chances to advance to the next round, that‘s what we have to focus."
