Minsk Hold On To Shock Karsiyaka

BC Minsk-2006 clinched a second straight win in the EuroChallenge with a 105-103 upset of Pinar Karsiyaka in Turkey.

After coming from behind last week to stun Telekom Baskets Bonn in Belarus, Andrei Krivonos' team hit the road and won in Izmir.

The visitors had an 86-72 lead going into the last quarter after Courtney Eldridge of BC Minsk-2006 was fouled while attempting a three-ball.

He made all three free-throws to put his team on top by 14.

Eldridge then started the fourth quarter with a shot from the arc that stretched the lead to 89-72.

Karsiyaka continued to battle and reduced the deficit to 99-91 with 3:01 to go when Jovo Stanojevic hit a jumper.

Goran Ikonic dunked and then made a lay-up to close the gap to 99-95 before Mire Chatman, with 1:21 left, scored to make it 99-97 in favor of Minsk.

The hosts fouled Aliaksandr Kudrautsau, the hero of last week's win over Telekom Baskets, and the Belarus international sank two free-throws to stretch the advantage back to four.

After Chatman, who had a game-high 36 points, converted two opportunities at the stripe for Karsiyaka, Eldridge made just one of two at the line with 48 seconds to play for a 102-99 Minsk advantage.

Twenty-year-old forward Ilkan Karaman nailed a jump shot for Karsiyaka to reduce the arrears to 102-101 with 16 seconds to play and the home side fouled Kudrautsau again.

He made both free-throws for a 104-101 lead.

After a Karsiyaka timeout, Stanojevic, the MVP of Week 1 in the EuroChallenge, tipped in a Chatman miss to take his points haul to 27 but just four seconds remained.

Ikonic fouled Kudrautsau with three seconds to go and made the first but missed the second.

Karaman got the rebound but Karsiyaka weren't able to take a potential game-tying shot.

Stanojevic also had 13 rebounds.

Kudrautsau led his team with 22 points while Eldridge and Justin Hawkins had 17 each.

Karsiyaka, who won at Turk Telekom last week, are now 1-1.
