|Mire Chatman had 14 points and 5 assists as Pinar Karsiyaka took revenge for the loss in the Turkish league|
Pinar Karsiyaka returned to the happy hunting grounds of the EuroChallenge on Tuesday and avenged their weekend setback to Turk Telekom in grand style.
In the Group G clash, Karsiyaka, who lost to Turk Telekom in Izmir just days ago in the Turkish league, bounced back with an 82-74 victory in Ankara.
Mire Chatman took most of the plaudits for Karsiyaka after scoring 37 points in the first meeting with Turk Telekom, but this time it was big man Jovo Stanojevic who wreaked havoc against the Ankara outfit.
A terrific competitor in last season's EuroChallenge when Hakan Demir's team reached the Quarter-Finals, Stanojevic made all 10 of his shots from the floor and had 25 points.
The veteran also pulled down 12 boards.
Turk Telekom had bossed the first meeting because of their superiority on the boards but this time it was Karsiyaka that won the rebounding battle, 36-30.
Fifteen of their rebounds came on the offensive glass.
Turk Telekom had a fine start and led 43-36 late in the first half and extended that to 49-39 early in the third quarter on a Mehmet Okur jumper.
Karsiyaka, however, ended up outscoring them 29-15 in the third quarter to take command.
When Goran Ikonic drilled a jump shot late in the frame, Karsiyaka were on a 15-2 tear and on top, 67-56.
Turk Telekom got no closer than six points in the fourth quarter.
Darius Washington had 21 points in defeat.
Ali Karadeniz had another strong game for Turk Telekom with 17 points and nine rebounds but it wasn't enough.
Pınar Karşıyaka player Brandon Bowdry:
"Basicly the second half we came with different minds. We wanted to rise up the defence which means we have the ability to do that. We had good guys. It was great minutes, great offence and we just stuck to the game plan and played aggressively."
Pınar Karşıyaka's head coach Hakan Demir:
"Our first game in the EuroChallange, we have made a perfect start with the away win. We want to continue the same way and with the same performance."
Türk Telekom player Muratcan Güler:
"Congrats to Karşıyaka. Before this game, we already won twice against Karşıyaka in this season but they won tonight. This means they have the potantial and they are a great team. We had to win but we couldn't."
Türk Telekom head coach Timuçin Meriç:
"We wanted to win in the first game and make a good start but we couldn't make it. Our players maybe lost their concentration because of our win against Karşıyaka three days ago. Karşıyaka scored 15 poinst in a row and we couldn't score. We made a lot of mistakes during the game. But we want to win against Telekom Baskets Bonn in our next game."
