Ros Casares pulled away from CCC Polkowice in the second half and won Game 1 of the EuroLeague Women Round 2 series in Valencia on Tuesday. Ann Wauters led a balanced attack with 19 points as the Spanish giants claimed an 88-54 victory. Roberto Iniguez's team will go for a 2-0 sweep in the tie on Friday when Game 2 is played in Poland Ros opened up a 17-point lead in the first half but Polkowice battled back to trail just 34-30. Agnieszka Bibrzycka, playing in her first EuroLeague Women game with Polkowice, hit a three-pointer to close the gap to 34-29 and then Iva Perovanovic split a pair of free-throws to cut the deficit to four. The comeback jolted Ros Casares, who finished the half strong. Isabelle Yacoubou followed up a miss by Maya Moore and scored down low and following another Moore miss, Sancho Lyttle grabbed the offensive rebound and put the ball in on the follow-up shot for a 38-30 Ros Casares advantage. Moore struggled to make her shots in the first half but drilled a three for the last points of the second quarter for a 41-32 lead. Wauters, who had seven points in the first half, began the second with consecutive lay-ups before Lauren Jackson popped back-to-back three-pointers for a 51-32 advantage. Ros cruised over the last 10 minutes for a decisive win. Wauters also had 10 rebounds for Ros Casares, who won the battle of the boards, 50-34. Moore finished three of 10 from long range and had 17 points and nine rebounds.
