|Taranto's French forward Elodie Godin posted a double-double in points and rebounds|
Cras Basket Taranto turned back Gospic Croatia on Thursday night to win for the first time in the EuroLeague Women this season.
Elodie Godin poured in 21 points, corralled 11 rebounds and also came up with three steals as the Italian side won 78-63.
Both outfits are now 1-1 in Women Group C.
Taranto trailed only once in the game, at 10-8 with 5:43 to go in the first quarter, following a jump shot by Gospic's Jelena Ivezic - one of the leading players in Croatia's national team.
After the hosts went back in front, a three-ball by Ivezic knotted the contest at 13-13.
Godin hit back-to-back jumpers and another one by Angela Gianolla stretched the Cras lead to 19-13.
The Italians threatened to run away with a big win, opening up a 30-16 advantage with 8:20 to go in the first half.
Gospic put the brakes on the spurt, however.
When Ivezic made a pair of free-throws, Taranto's lead was cut to 30-26.
The hosts went on to take a 39-33 lead to half-time.
Taranto center Maria Pascalau had 10 points at the break, while Ivezic led all scorers at that point, with 14.
Gianolla and Godin each had two baskets in a 10-0 run to start the second half that put Taranto on top 49-33.
Gospic didn't go away, however.
Three-pointers by Kalisha Keane and Sandra Mandir helped cut the home side's lead to 51-47 late in the third quarter.
That was as close as the visitors would get.
Shots from the arc by Giorgia Sottana and Valentina Siccardi pushed the Taranto lead back to 57-47 by the end of the third quarter.
Gospic got to within 59-54 with 6:22 remaining, but Godin hit a jumper and five straight points by Gianolla stretched the Taranto advantage back to 66-54.
They ended up winning by 15.
Taranto out-rebounded their opponents 44-35 and Gospic were just eight of 29 from long range.
