The memory of Rivas Ecopolis' five-game winning streak in the EuroLeague Women is fading fast with Good Angels Kosice on Thursday sending the Spanish club to its second consecutive defeat in the competition.
Erin Lawless poured in 20 points for Kosice in their 68-62 triumph.
Kosice beat Rivas for the second time this season and now both sides have 5-4 records in Group C.
The visitors from Slovakia led 41-32 midway through the third quarter but weren't able to press home the advantage with Rivas pulling level by the end of the frame at 47-47 after eight straight points by Jelena Dubljevic.
Laura Nicholls and Anna Cruz then began the fourth quarter with baskets and Rivas had the perfect platform for victory.
But down 56-51 with 4:38 to play after a three-ball by Rivas guard Elisa Aguilar, the visitors regained control of the game.
Danielle Mc Cray scored six unanswered points - four of them from the stripe - for a 57-56 lead.
Lawless followed with a jumper and after Natalia Vieru split a pair of free-throws, Lawless struck from behind the arc for a 63-56 advantage.
Rivas called a timeout but failed to come up with an answer to Kosice's excellent play.
Asjha Jones had 14 points and 11 rebounds in defeat.
Stefan Svitek (Good Angels Kosice coach):
"We were able to stop a team like Rivas Ecópolis, which usually scores many points at home, at 62 - that speaks volumes about our defense. The key to the succss was to keep fighting in the last period, when they got the lead. We had too many turnovers on the third quarter, but we came back in the last period after a good time out."
Erin Lawless (Good Angels Kosice):
"We had to stay focused, and we did it in the last period. I played with confidence, I haven't done that in the past and now I have a lot, which allows me to shoot like I did in this game."
Miguel Méndez (Rivas Ecópolis coach):
"We have been quite irregular in this game, suffering from many ups and downs. We were in a good position coming into the last period, but then we missed two easy shots, they hit two difficult ones, and the game went away. We had a small rotation as some of our players were not producing on the court."
Jelena Dubljevic (Rivas Ecópolis):
"We knew that Good Angels Kosice was a tough team, they play a physical game, and did so in this match. We suffered on defense and rebounding, came back in the third quarter, but when you lose your focus for a minute, that team is capable of getting a big lead. That's what happened to us."
