Wisla Can-Pack Krakow kept pace with Sparta&K Moscow Region at the top of EuroLeague Women Group C by winning 72-69 at Good Angels Kosice on Wednesday night.
Nicole Powell and Anke De Mondt wreaked havoc from long range for the winners, who improved to 6-2.
The former hit five of her six shots from the arc and scored a game-high 25 points while De Mondt, a member of Perfumerias Avenida's title-winning side last season, had 12 points on four-of-six shooting from the three-point line.
Erin Phillips poured in 18 points for the winners.
Krakow led 63-54 going into the last quarter but had to hold on with Kosice outscoring them 15-9 over the last 10 minutes.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Wisla's lead was 65-63 but Kosice came up just short against Jose Ignacio Hernandez's team.
Natalia Vieru led the Kosice attack with 19 points.
Danielle Mc Cray added 14 and Lucia Kupcikova had 13.
The Slovakian club fell to 4-4.
Wisla Krakow Head Coach José Hernandéz:
"It was very dramatic match. I think, that our team deserved this victory, because we led for about 36 minutes. Both teams played very good in defense and I think, that the spectators could see a fantastic basketball game."
Good Angels Košice Head Coach Štefan Svitek:
"I was not satisfied with our performance in the first half. We did not play well on defense and the fact, that we lost the first half only by three points was a little miracle. After the break, our game has changed, the girls fought hard, but in the end of the match the experience of Krakow´s players decided."
Wisla Krakow player Nicole Powell:
"It was a crazy game. Košice played amazing, but we did a very good job on defense and therefore we are very glad, that we won this tough match."
Good Angels Košice captain Lucia Kupčíková:
"In the end we were really unlucky. We lost by three points, although we led by one point two minutes before the end of the game. It's a shame. We must quickly forget about the wrong conclusion of this game, because already a week ahead another hard match is waiting for us."
